About.
Two centuries of Methodist worship on Fore Street. A congregation from over 40 nations, rooted in one faith — still growing, still welcoming, still learning what it means to follow Jesus together.
Two centuries of faith on Fore Street.
Methodist worship has taken place on Fore Street, Edmonton, since 1819. What began as a small chapel serving a working neighbourhood has grown — across two centuries, through wars and migrations, through the rise and fall of industries — into the congregation you see today.
For much of that history we were known as Edmonton Methodist Central Hall. Today we are Edmonton Methodist Church — still the same family, still rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, still committed to being a house of prayer for all peoples.
We are part of the Methodist Church in Great Britain, and of the Enfield Circuit. But more than any label, we are a family — drawn from over 40 nations, bound together by the love of Christ.
From 1819 to today.
A brief timeline of a community shaped by God's faithfulness across generations.
The A.B.L.E. framework.
Our mission is expressed in four simple commitments — four verbs that shape everything we do, from Sunday worship to midweek fellowship.
Affirm
Affirm the worth and dignity of every person. See Christ in one another — whatever their story, wherever they've come from.
Be Inclusive
Welcome all without exception. Make space at the table for every nation, every generation, every season of life.
Learn
Grow in faith through Scripture, discipleship and honest conversation. Remain students of the Word all our days.
Enable
Equip every member to serve, to lead, and to use their gifts — for the church, for the neighbourhood, for the world.
The heart of our faith.
We stand within the Wesleyan tradition of the Methodist Church in Great Britain. These are the convictions that shape our worship, our preaching, and our life together.
The Trinity
We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who is love, and who invites us into relationship with himself and with one another.
Scripture
The Bible is the primary source and guide for our faith. We read it together, study it seriously, and trust it to shape our lives.
Grace
God's grace goes before us (prevenient), brings us to faith (justifying), and grows us into the likeness of Christ (sanctifying). Grace is the heart of the Wesleyan way.
The Sacraments
We celebrate two sacraments given by Christ: Baptism — the sign of new life — and Holy Communion — the meal of Christ's presence, open to all who love him.
Love God, Love Neighbour
The greatest commandment. Everything we do — worship, fellowship, outreach — is shaped by the call to love God with all we are, and our neighbour as ourselves.
Connectional Life
We are not a church alone. As Methodists, we belong together — in circuit, in district, in connexion — sharing resources, ministry and mission across the whole church.
Serving alongside you.
Our ministers, stewards and ministry leaders are here to walk with you in faith — to pray with you, to listen, and to help you find your place in the life of the church.
Welcome home.
A personal word from Rev. Dr. Valentin Dedji to every person reading this page — whether you've followed Christ for decades or you're just beginning to ask questions.
Dear Friend,
If you are reading this, I want you to know something before anything else: you are welcome here. Not in the polite, distant way that churches sometimes mean — but in the real way. The way that says: come as you are. Bring your questions. Bring your doubts. Bring your joy, your grief, your unfinished business. There is a seat for you in this family.
I became a minister because I discovered — slowly, and often the hard way — that the Christian faith is not a set of answers to be memorised but a living relationship to be entered into. It is the story of a God who comes looking for us, long before we ever think to look for him.
Edmonton Methodist Church has been a place of worship on Fore Street for more than two hundred years. I sometimes think about all the people who have stood where I stand, sat where you might one day sit — through wars and recessions, through births and bereavements, through the quiet ordinary days in between. We are part of a story much bigger than ourselves.
Today we are a congregation from over forty nations. We worship in the Wesleyan tradition, but our songs carry accents from Accra and Kingston, from Lagos and London. Our choir sings hymns written in the 1700s alongside gospel songs written last year. Our children's ministry is full of little voices learning, for the first time, that they are loved by God.
What I want for you — whether you are visiting this page out of curiosity, or considering making this church your spiritual home — is that you would come and see. Come to a Sunday service. Sit with us. Share a cup of tea afterwards. Ask the awkward questions. Let someone pray with you. Let us get to know you, and let us introduce you to the One who already knows you completely — and loves you anyway.
This church is not a museum for saints. It is a hospital for the broken, a home for the lonely, and a family for anyone who wants to belong. That is what I want it to remain, for as long as I have breath to lead it.
Whoever you are, wherever you are on the journey — there is a place for you here. I look forward to meeting you.
